As an alternative to electromobility, fuel cells are gaining in importance. Their lifetime is limited as the catalysts corrode rapidly. Specially layered nanoparticles bypass these disadvantages.

The novel catalyst consists of a shell of platinum atoms. Inside, platinum and cobalt atoms are specially layered. This increases performance and makes the catalyst last longer.

Will the big players compete in commercial space travel? The British company Reaction Engines has been working on a new propulsion system for the “Skylon” spacecraft for about 30 years, which is both a reusable space shuttle and super-fast hypersonic jet. Recently Boeing and Rolls-Royce joined as investors. That makes you sit up and take notice.

Russia has apparently tested a flyable nuclear-powered rocket that will reach up to ten times the speed of sound. With that she would hardly be hit by a missile defense. The rocket was launched in flight by a MIG31. The Russian Ministry of Defense has published a corresponding video.
